Dogs for Democracy Comes to Mercer Island

Bring out your dogs (or stuffies) and join us at Mercerdale Park Saturday, May 9
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

At a time when many Americans feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and disheartened by the relentless pace and tone of current events, a unique community gathering aims to offer something different: connection, support, and a dose of hope—delivered with the help of our four-legged companions.

Dogs for Democracy,” taking place on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mercerdale Park, 3009 77th Ave SE, Mercer Island, invites everyone to come together with their dogs, dog stuffies, or just themselves in a lighthearted but meaningful show of support for democracy, decency, and empathy. There will be a Pup-n-Selfie photo op.

In challenging times, many people turn to social media for connection, only to find themselves feeling more distressed. This event offers an alternative—an opportunity to step outside, connect in person, and share a sense of solidarity.

Anyone who knows dogs understands the qualities they bring into our lives: loyalty, presence, energy, and unconditional support. By gathering with our canine companions—many of whom will be sporting signs expressing messages of civic values—participants and passersby alike can experience a sense of community, camaraderie, and renewed optimism.

While the event may not change the course of national events overnight, it aims to foster something just as important: a reminder that we are not alone, and that small moments of connection can help sustain us.

Participants—and their pups—will likely leave feeling uplifted, supported, and ready for a well-earned rest (and perhaps a belly rub or two).

All are welcome.
