Hundreds of people took to the streets on Mercer Island on the inaugural anniversary of the current POTUS. Affiliated with the Women’s March, the Mercer Island Walks for a Free America event took place on January 20th from 3-4pm at “Democracy Corner” at Island Crest Way and SE 40th Ave. Timed to coincide with after-school activities, youth and high schoolers attended. Folks signed and waved, expressing our first amendment right to gather and voice our opinion.

The protest was lead by Mercer Island Rising United for Democracy, a grassroots group of citizens who believe in the principles of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and are devoted to promoting and preserving American democracy. Our actions empower a growing number of island citizens to build community, be heard, and advance the rule of law.

Similar protests occur at this location weekly every Sunday at 3 pm. All Islanders are welcome to join us!
