Light rail is coming to Mercer Island! Latest word is that the Mercer Island station and service connecting Seattle to Bellevue will open on or before May 31, 2026.

What does this mean for the Island?

It means convenient access to friends, restaurants, the arts, the airport, and more in Seattle and on the eastside. It means we will be able to leave our cars behind and choose an option for travel that is climate-friendly, low stress, and largely protected from traffic impacts.

It will also mean that others in the greater Seattle area can more easily come to Mercer Island to visit us and patronize our businesses.

Some in the community have concerns about the safety impacts of easier access to the Island. Some time back the City Council approved the addition of two patrol officer positions to ensure that we have enough police to keep an eye on the transit station.
