#SaveCrest: Act Now

Now is the time to advocate for Crest and oppose the closure of this special program on the island. We hope you’ll join us!

You may have heard that Mercer Island School District is planning to close the Crest Block class and move other classes to the main high school building (leaving just one classroom active). They have provided minimal notice, a shifting set of reasons and no clear plan for next year.

Current Crest students and families are working to oppose the change. More than a hundred Crest alumni have stepped up against this closure, and are sharing their compelling personal stories. We need your help to spread the word to others: parents of younger students who might in future years benefit from an individualized learning model that reinforces community and celebrates grit; neighbors and friends who believe in engaging and educating ALL students; and islanders who know that accessibility is a necessity!

Act now:

  1. Sign the petition to Save Crest Learning Center.

  2. Attend the MIHS meeting about Crest on Monday, April 20 at 5:00pm in the MIHS Library

  3. Attend the School Board Meeting on Thursday, April 23 at 5pm, with public input at6pm. Wear all black to show support, and sign up to share public input, if desired (registration is needed to make a public statement here)

  4. If you’re not comfortable sharing a verbal statement, you can complete this form prior to April 23 to contribute your perspective in a printed submission to the School Board.

  5. Send emails in support of Crest and demanding full community engagement to ourSchool Board, board@mercerislandschool.org; superintendent Fred Rundle, Fred.Rundle@mercerislandschools.org; MIHS principal Nick Wold, nick.wold@mercerislandschools.org; and Jamie Prescott, jamie.prescott@mercerislandschools.org

Additional resources are being assembled for Crest families and students with IEPs. Reach out via the form at #4 above to be added to our contact list, and to share any questions or ideas.

Thank you!
