City Council Agenda 2026-06-16
CITY GOVERNMENTFEATURED
The Mercer Island City Council will meet on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM, at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.
The full 488 page agenda can be found here. My summary follows.
But first, my usual reminder: Democracy is not a spectator sport. If you have an opinion on local city issues, social media posts are cheap, but if you want real impact, talk to the Council! You can email the whole council or me as an individual councilmember. Or send an email to the city clerk to let her know that you would like to speak (for up to three minutes) at the upcoming meeting. All are welcome. You do not need to be registered to vote. Though if you can register, please do! You do not even need to be an adult. If you have an opinion or an idea, I want to hear it. That said, for non-policy administrative matters, please email the customer service team.

AB 6947: GMA Compliance – Presentation of Planning Commission Recommendations
This is the biggest agenda item by far. The Planning Commission has been working for months on code amendments and comprehensive plan changes to respond to last year's adverse Growth Management Hearings Board (GMHB) ruling. No votes are anticipated at this meeting, but the schedule calls for a first reading at the July 7 meeting, with likely adoption at the July 21 meeting, just in time for the July 31 deadline.
These changes are going to be extensive, but they appear to be necessary to comply with state law as interpreted by the GMHB.
AB 6948: First Quarter 2026 Financial Status Update
TLDR: YTD financial results are approximately on track with budget forecasts.
