Following the outcome of Proposition 1 in the November 2025 general election – in which the bond measure to fund a new Public Safety and Maintenance Facility did not garner enough votes to pass – the Mercer Island City Council is discussing options to address ongoing facilities needs for the City of Mercer Island.
To gather feedback that will inform this discussion, the City has commissioned an online survey of residents regarding their satisfaction with City-provided services and its approach to facilities planning. The City wants to hear from you! Your participation is crucial to ensure your elected representatives understand the community’s views. Take the survey.
Volunteer to Serve on a Board or Commission
The Mercer Island City Council is recruiting for vacant positions on the City’s advisory boards and commissions, and you can join! Participation by Island residents is invaluable in helping the City Council make important decisions.
Positions are currently open on the Arts Council, which promotes and supports high quality arts and cultural activities for the community; the Open Space Conservancy Trust, which manages, preserves, and maintains the City's open space properties; and the Utility Board, which advises the City Council on matters regarding utilities.
Interested in volunteering? Learn more and apply today. Applications will be accepted through March 6, 2026. For questions, email the city clerk.
Apply to Participate in Summer Celebration
Summer Celebration – Mercer Island’s premier summertime festival – is set for Saturday, July 11, 2026, and planning is in full swing. Join a Support Group for Caregivers
The City of Mercer Island’s Department of Youth and Family Services (YFS) has organized a free support group for spouses and partners caring for those with dementia. Group meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
The group is facilitated by long-time Mercer Island resident Carin Mack, a retired geriatric social worker with four decades of experience, most recently as director of the Memory Loss Program at Greenwood Senior Center. For information, visit the YFS website. To join, call the YFS confidential voicemail line at (206) 275-7657 or email YFS.
Learn Skills to Save Your Pet's Life
The Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) will host a first-ever Pet First Aid class for the community on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. This free class for Mercer Island residents and businesses, taught by an MIPD police support officer, will cover a variety of topics, including what to do in an emergency, common pet injuries and toxicities, pet CPR, and more. Registration is required, and due to anticipated popularity, MIPD recommends registering early.
Pet of the Week: Freyja

We are partnering with Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) to highlight an adoptable pet each week. Learn more about this pet and many others.
Hi, my name is Mille, and I'm available for adoption! I'm a 2-year-old female Pit Bull dog, gray/fawn (ID #A742152). I am sweet, gentle, and quiet and enjoy being around my caretakers. I walk very well on a leash and enjoy going for walks. I am motivated by treats and eager to please so I would likely do well in any home. I seem to like kids pretty well, but I should meet kids and other dogs before being adopted by a family.
I am spayed, current on vaccinations, and microchipped! My adoption comes with many benefits, including 30 days of opt-in pet insurance through Trupanion. My reduced adoption fee includes a King County pet license (if applicable), which helps facilitate my safe return home should I become lost, and provides additional benefits, including Vacation Pet Alert, Free Ride Home, and more! Visit the pet licensing webpage for more information.
If you and your family are ready to fall in love with my pawesome self, please come down to RASKC to visit me!
Contact RASKC at 206-296-7387 (PETS) or by email. To meet potential pets for adoption, visit RASKC:
